Project Recovery and Backup System

Wise SCADA features an advanced Auto-Backup mechanism to protect your data against situations such as power outages, computer shutdowns, or file corruption while working on your project.
When you attempt to load a project, the system checks file integrity. If it detects corruption in the project file, it automatically guides you to the backup wizard.

1. How Auto-Backup Works

Every time you open and Save your project, Wise SCADA backs up a working copy in the background with a date and time stamp.

  • Backup Location: Backups are stored in your computer’s AppData folder: C:\Users\[UserName]\AppData\Roaming\Wise SCADA\[ProjectName]\[Date_Time]\

2. Damaged Project Loading Scenario

If the project file you are trying to open is damaged, Wise SCADA attempts to recover your project by following these steps in order:

Step 1: Recovery from Backup (Recommended)

The system first checks if there is a previously taken backup for this specific project.

  • Message: “Do you want to see the backed-up files?”
  • If [Yes] is selected: The system directs you straight to the folder containing backups for that project (the AppData path mentioned above). From here, you can recover your project by selecting the folder with the newest date.
  • If [No] is selected: Proceeds to the next step.
Step 2: Searching Other Backups

If no specific backup is found for that project or if you selected “No”, the system offers to check the general backup folder.

  • Message: “This project has not been backed up before! Do you want to see other backed-up projects?”
  • If [Yes] is selected: Opens the main folder where all projects are backed up. You might find a backup of the project under a different name here.
  • If [No] is selected: Proceeds to the next step.
Step 3: Final Decision (New Project or Partial Load)

If you do not wish to restore from backups, the system offers a final option.

  • Message: “Do you want to create a new project instead?”
  • If [Yes] is selected: The damaged project is closed, and a blank, new project is created from scratch.
  • If [No] is selected (Partial Load): This option means “Open the damaged file anyway.” Wise SCADA skips the corrupted parts of the project and loads the parts that remain readable and intact (e.g., even if some screens are broken, the Tag list might be safe).
    • Warning: Data loss may occur in a project opened with this method.

Saving the Recovered Project (Crucial)

When you open a project from a backup (Step 1), you are actually opening the temporary backup in the AppData folder. You must save this project to your main working folder before continuing to work.

  1. As soon as the backup project opens, use the File > Save As menu.
  2. Save the project to your own working folder (e.g., Desktop or My Documents), preferably with a new name.
  3. This way, you can continue working safely on the recovered project without corrupting the backup file.
